Purpose of this Privacy Statement
The Everest companies namely Everest Financial Service (Pty) Limited, Everest Funerals Mpumalanga (Pty) Limited and Everest Corporate Life (Pty) Limited, “Everest”, respects the privacy of all persons including employees, third parties, and consumers. Everest collects and processes personal information of all its stakeholders in accordance with applicable privacy laws, for example, the Protection of Personal Information Act No 4 of 2013 (POPIA)
Personal information refers to any information that can be used to identify a natural or juristic person and determine who they are, for example your name and surname, your identity number, your contact details, and financial information. For purposes of the statement, “Processing” is any activity performed on personal information.
Purposes of Processing
Everest processes personal information for the following purposes:
- Processing your application and activation of a product you applied for,
- Communicate with you to keep you informed about the products you applied for
- For employment related purposes,
- For managing third party relationships and fulfilment or performance of a contract where you are our service providers.
- Where you have applied for employment at Everest, your information will be processed for performing applicant screening and background checks.
- Further processing for historical, statistical or research purposes where the outcome will not be published in an identifiable manner.
- To direct market to you if you have provided such consent. However, should you not wish to receive direct marketing communication from Everest anymore, you can inform us in writing.
Categories of Personal Information
The following information is processed across Everest:
- Names, surname, marital status, nationality, age, physical health status, mental health status, well-being, disability status, language, date of birth.
- Unique identifiers such as employee number; company registration numbers, ID number
- Contact information such as email-addresses, physical address, telephone number
- Biometric information such as fingerprinting, particularly in our employment processes.
- Education, medical, financial, employment information
We may not be able to carry out our purposes and provide our services to you without your personal information.
Personal information will be collected directly from you. There may be instances when Everest will collect personal information from other sources where you may already have made such information in the public, for verification purposes. We will only collect information from other sources if we are legally allowed to do so.
Third Parties
Everest will not share your information with third parties unless:
- There is a legal obligation,
- You have provided us with your consent,
- It is in our legitimate business interests to share the information, or
- Your legitimate interest requires the disclosure.
Some third parties may not be located in South Africa. We will only transfer your Personal Information outside the Republic of South Africa if the receiving party will provide adequate level of protection to the Personal Information. We will ensure that we enter into necessary data transfer agreements with any person(s) who receives your Personal Information outside of the Republic of South Africa.
Security Safeguards
We will take appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures to prevent loss, misuse or unauthorised access, destruction, or alteration to personal information.We will take every effort to make sure that your Personal Information is kept confidential and secure.
- We will promptly notify you if we become aware of any unauthorised use or disclosure of your Personal Information.
Retention of records
We will not retain your Personal Information longer than is necessary to fulfill a specified purpose. All records of personal information are retained in line with defined retention periods and legitimate business purposes.

- Automated Decision Making
We may engage in automated processing that makes decisions based on profiling, such decision which may impact you significantly.
